So many similarities in this shook me, but your words about the impact of being stranded without a car stopped me in my tracks. When my parents kicked me out after a fight about lesbianism and politics, I was also in an area with poor public transit and ended up using Uber. There was an instance where Uber was available to take me where I was going but not pick me up. I walked alongside a highway, veering into the grass when a semi truck felt too close so I wouldn’t die in traffic. It’s a big part of why I think and write so much about infrastructure (and queer infrastructure specifically!)—without it, we rely on the whims of others who can leave us stranded in dangerous circumstances for any reason. Sorry to dump in your comments but it felt too similar not to share!
this is incredible. it’s hard to reconcile that your real parent and the addict in front of you are the same person. sometimes estrangement is greatest gift you can give yourself. ❤️🔥
as a trans lesbian that is estranged from both parents as well, i couldnt stop crying at the end. thank you for writing this
